Happy 4th of July to my US Readers

Having grown up in Canada, I have visited the USA on countless occasions. I loved visiting your country as it was always a great thrill, whether to go skiing in Vermont, roadtripping on your highways, or walking the streets of the big apple or the windy city. I wanted to become an architect as a youngster because I was fascinated by the work of Frank Lloyd Wright (I grew up in a house designed by a student of his, Jim Strutt), and wanted to become a critic because I was inspired by the writings of Michael Sorkin.

This is why it breaks my heart to see what is happening to your country today. I just can’t understand how the same country that produces music as great as that of Aretha Franklin, Johnny Cash, Lucinda Williams or Patti Smith can vote in politicians as evil as Trumpf or Vance. They have got to be the worst human beings to tread the planet since Hitler and Stalin. How can this have happened in the USA, of all places? I know the gun laws (or rather the absence of gun laws) in your country suck bigtime, as do many of your supposedly ‘Christian’ religious leaders (apparently they also literally suck!). But at least your many great artists make up for the many shortcomings of your country.

Please take back your government from all the filthy-rich swine who have taken it over and who are passing tax breaks for themselves while cutting Medicaid and criminalizing immigrants. Please, please, for the sake of human dignity, put your awful president and all his hacks and lackeys on a one-way rocket to Russia –no, better yet Mars, where they can rename the red planet’s geographical features to their heart’s delight. It would be doing Planet Earth a really great favor. Thanks a bunch in advance, y’all.
